Gopherdon almost ready for public beta

Written by Marquis Kurt on December 11, 2019

Howdy, everyone! I’ve got some exciting updates about Gopherdon as a project that’s worth sharing.

Gopherdon apps see stable release, new beta apps ready

About a week and a half ago, we released the stable versions of the Gopherdon apps for macOS, Linux, and Web. While we’re still working on making a Windows build, we’re pleased to finally release the full versions of these apps with all of the features you’ll love from Hyperspace and features we’re bringing over from the Gopher app, like events. We also have a new Goucher-approved app icon that represents the animated gopher that everyone loves designed for the Gopherdon apps.

I’d like to thank the Hyperspace team and the communications department at Goucher for helping make these apps possible; you rock!

Gopherdon v1.1 beta

We’ve also been hard at work on starting the next feature update to the Gopherdon apps to keep in sync with the next Hyperspace feature update, version 1.1. This will include some of the great features Hyperspace is bringing, including (but not limited to) the following:

We want to test and make sure that Gopherdon v1.1 is as great as it can be, so you can try it out at the same place we had the original betas: https://gopherdonapp-next.herokuapp.com!

Gopherdon server updates and upgrades

The server that Gopherdon runs on has also been getting updated the past few days and is now running on much better hardware that should be more than capable of handling everyone that uses Gopherdon. Additionally, we should now have more storage ready for tons of images, videos, etc., and also have room for more server backups. That being said, the server’s been serving Gopherdon like a champ, and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks again to Prof. Tom Kelliher for lending the hardware and helping make the Gopherdon network possible!

When’s the public beta?

Finally, we reach the important question: when is the public beta launching? With all of the necessary components now in place and running, we’re very much ready to launch the public beta and see where we go from there! We will be launching the public beta in early spring semester in full swing; we just need to tie a few loose ends and make sure that we’re ready to open the gates.

I can’t wait to see Gopherdon in action and see where we go from here! Again, I’d like to thank everyone that helped make Gopherdon possible; without these people, Gopherdon wouldn’t be the awesome network it is today.
